Jubo Dal leader shot dead

A Jubo Dal leader and alleged member of the notorious 'Seven Star Group' was gunned down and a Jubo league leader was shot in the capital yesterday.

Newly elected Assistant Organising Secretary of Juba Dal's north city unit Nurul Haq Nuru, 40, was shot as he came out of a mosque at Mirpur after Juma prayers.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

His relatives linked the killing to internal feuds of Jubo Dal or conflicts with a local Jubo League leader.

Witnesses and police said the incident took place in front of Baitul Mosharraf Mosque at Mirpur section-6. Nuru and his eldest son came out of the mosque along with some others. One of them suddenly grabbed Nuru and some youths waiting at the mosque entrance rushed to him. He was shot by one of the youths.

A listed criminal, Nuru had a number of criminal cases against him with Mirpur Pallabi and Ramna police stations, police said.

No case was filed and none was arrested till last night.

Vice-president of Jubo League's ward-54 unit Rahmat was shot at Rampura at about 4:00pm yesterday.

Relatives said he went to Balurmath at Rampura from his Moghbazar Gabtola residence on a mobile phone call from some one. Some youths shot him in the chest there.

Critically injured, Rahmat was rushed to the DMCH and admitted there.

In another incident, a cloth trader was shot dead at Satmasjid Road in Dhanmondi yesterday evening.

The victim, Sabbir Newaz Tutul, 30, was called over mobile phone by an unidentified person at about 6:30pm and asked to go to Satmasjid Road immediately, sources said.

Locals later found him lying with bullet wounds in the head and chest.

He was rushed to the DMCH only to be declared dead on arrival.
