A hall unit leader of ruling BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of Dhaka University (DU) beat up two activists of a rival faction at Jahurul Haque hall as they said 'salaam' to him Wednesday.

Tanzilur Rahman Tanzil, Jahurul Haque hall unit JCD president, bashed up Sanaullah Babu, a second year law student, and masters student Ziaul Haque Zia following the salutation in front of the hall gate at about 8:30pm, sources said.

Tanzil attacked Babu and Zia as they support the faction led by JCD general secretary of the same hall Shah Alam. He also threatened rival activists Mintu and Khokhan, hall activists said.

"We will not tolerate assaults on our activists in future," a JCD leader said adding that the hall president assaulted some general students and party activists at the hall in the past.

Earlier, Tanzil beat up JCD activists Motahar Hossain Bhutta and Arifur Rahman Chanchal. He also led the attack on The Daily Star's DU correspondent three months ago.
