BNP leader, DC behind Shamsu's release: OC
Police probe into the recent arrest and release of notorious smuggler Shamsu took a new turn yesterday with a top leader of the city BNP blamed for this.
Sources said the officer-in- charge (OC) of Khulna Police Station told the probe committee the BNP leader instigated him to arrest Shamsu and release him after taking bribe.
The OC, Shafiul Azam, is further reported to have told the probe body Shamsu was released on orders from Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Mahbub Hakim. The DC and KMP Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Alif were aware of his arrest, he was quoted as saying.
