Former Bagerhat BNP MP escapes bomb attacks

Former lawmaker and Vice-president of Bagerhat district BNP Shaikh Mujibar Rahman escaped bomb attacks unhurt Saturday night.

According to a general diary filed yesterday evening, four unidentified men hurled three hand bombs at Rahman one after another while he was on his way to Mollahat at around 10:00pm Saturday.

But none of the bombs exploded. He took shelter in a nearby house before his attackers could hurl a fourth bomb. The four men then left the scene on two motorbikes.

Officer-in-charge of Khulna police station rushed to the spot and police recovered the unexploded bombs.

Shaikh Mujibar Rahman was elected MP for Bagerhat-1 constituency in the February 15, 1996 parliamentary elections, but was defeated by Shaikh Helal in the same constituency in the last elections.

He leads a BNP faction rival to Bagerhat district BNP President MAH Selim MP. defeated by Shaikh Helal in the same constituency in the last elections.
