Violence mars Jubo League conference
Pandemonium broke out over formation of the convening committee of Chittagong City unit of Jubo League, the youth front of Awami League (AL), during its triennial conference at Laldighi Maidan here yesterday, police and witnesses said.
The trouble erupted at around 3:00pm when a group of Jubo League activists hurled chairs at the podium as soon as joint convenor Shafiq Adnan was proposed as party general secretary.
This was followed by several rounds of blank fire sending people running helter-skelter. A group of activists were also manhandled by the agitators before Chittagong Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury intervened to bring the situation under control.
