Ruling alliance holds 'grand' rally today

The BNP-led four-party alliance has completed all its preparations to hold a 'grand' public meeting at Paltan Maidan this afternoon to mark its two-year rule.

The meeting was originally scheduled for October 8 but the date was shifted due to inclement weather.

"We will certainly hold the grand rally tomorrow although the weather forecast indicates rain and bad weather on the day due to low pressure in the Bay," a top organiser said yesterday.

"We spent almost Tk 5 lakh in preparation for the rally on October 8 and now a similar amount is being spent. So the question of shifting the date again does not arise at all," he added.

Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will address the meeting as chief guest. City BNP President and Mayor of Dhaka City Corporation Sadeque Hossain Khoka MP will preside.

The PM has already returned from Malaysia while Khoka, now in China on a visit, is due to return home early today.
