Bhuiyan threatens legal action if AL fails to prove its allegation of 1014-party godfathers

BSS, Dhaka
BNP and Jamaat yesterday denied main opposition Awami League (AL)'s allegation that 101 leaders of the ruling four-party alliance are criminal "godfathers".

"We demand of Awami League to either prove their allegation or withdraw it, otherwise they will face legal measures," said BNP Secretary General and Minister for LGRD (Local Government, Rural Development) and Cooperatives Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan in a statement.

"It is Awami League that patronises criminal godfathers and Mafia dons, and is now trying hard to shift its own misdeeds on BNP's shoulders," he said.

He said BNP is ready to get all godfathers arrested irrespective of their political identities.

Bhuiyan said that as a democratic party the BNP always welcomes criticism from the opposition and wants it to play its due role, but in recent times the AL has launched an indecent campaign based on falsehood.

He said such practice of "sickening distortion" has become a routine exercise of the AL, which endangers healthy and democratic politics.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and Social Welfare Minister Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid in a statement also condemned the "baseless" allegation made by AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil at a press briefing.
