BNP refutes Hasina's allegations
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina chronicled a raft of allegations against the government at a Friday rally that coincided with Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's address to the nation marking the coalition's completion of two years in power.
In a statement, the BNP said Hasina portrayed the past as the frightening situation of crime, insecurity, corruption, politicisation, human-rights violation and economic disaster that had been created in the five years of her government but was trying to pass the blame onto the present government.
Referring to the alleged repression of the minorities after the last general elections, it said the allegation is untrue and Hasina could not prove the allegations in the last two years.
The statement said: "Thousands of leaders and activists of the then opposition BNP were subjected to inhuman torture and repression by the Awami League government."
