A member of the ruling BNP's youth front Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal was killed and four others of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were critically injured in a clash between the two groups at Moni Square in the city Sunday night.

Saiful Islam, 22, son of Mozammel Hossain, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday morning.

He was stabbed indiscriminately during the clash at around 9:00pm and rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) and then to the DMCH.

Vice-president of the JCD city unit Shiplu and activists Liyon, Sohel and Raihan Maruf were admitted to the RMCH in a critical condition.

Police and witnesses said the clash erupted following the previous enmity between the two groups.

Police seized the knife used in the killing and arrested four JCD workers -- Sohel, Raihan Maruf, Raju Roy and Hossain Mahmud.

Mozammel, the victim's father, filed a case accusing the four arrestees, of whom Raju and Maruf were also accused in another murder case, police said.
