Shibir man threatens RU pro-VC
Rokon Uddin, the ICS president of Motihar Hall (MH) called on pro-VC KHM Shahadat Hossain Mondal at his office at around 11:00am and pressed him to take three books written by Moulana Syed Abul Ala Moududi, the pro-VC alleged.
Earlier, on September 14, the ICS activists presented the books to Mondal when he attended a farewell ceremony at the MH as special guest. At home, he found the books were 'Islami Buniadi Shikkha' (Fundamental Teachings of Islam) and 'Manabatar Bondhu Mohammad' (Mohammad SM, a Friend to Humanity) in Bangla and 'Tahdimul Quran' in Arabic all written by Moududi, he told newsmen at his office.
"I called the MH provost and progamme organisers at my office to ask the reasons behind presenting me such controversial books," he said.
Rokon, also convener of the function, went to his office and said, "You must receive whatever we present to you", the pro-VC quoted the ICS leader as saying.
Rokon threatened him of dire consequences as he refused to receive the books in front of other hall provosts and local Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Abdul Hai.
"Rokon misbehaved with me and I could not accept a student behaving in that manner," Mondol told reporters.
The RU unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) condemned the incident. The JCD also demanded probe into the matter and exemplary punishment to Rokon.
However, the ICS leaders could not be contacted for comment despite repeated attempts.
