'Steps to be taken to celebrate Durga Puja peacefully'
Home Minister Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury yesterday said the government would take all necessary measures to celebrate Durga Puja, one of the main festivals of the Hindu Community, in a peaceful manner.
He was addressing an opinion exchange meeting with the members of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust at the Religious Ministry here.
State Minister for Religious Affairs Mosharef Hossain Shahjahan, Dhirendra Nath Saha, MP and members of the trust also spoke on the occasion.
The home minister said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. The people of every religion enjoy their religious festival here peacefully.
He called upon all to be cautious about the vested quarters, who are engaged to destroy the religious harmony.
The trust members expressed their satisfaction over the government role in maintaining peaceful atmosphere during the last puja festival.
