Hearing date on Panni murder case on Sept 22

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, Dhaka yesterday fixed September 22 for hearing on charge-framing against the accused in the Sultana Khan Panni murder case.

Judge Motiur Rahman issued the order after the case was placed before him.

Sultana Khan Panni, 70, wife of former deputy speaker Humayun Khan Panni, was strangled at her Dhanmondi residence on May 19, this year.

The victim's daughter Sonia Khan Panni filed a murder case with Dhanmondi Police Station the same day.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police pressed charges against four accused -- cook of Panni's house Alauddin Munshi, caretaker Mehedi Mamun Rana, and their friends Nasir Uddin and Emdadul Haq -- on July 14.

In the charge sheet 26 people were shown as prosecution witnesses.

The four accused, all in custody, were produced before the court.
