Nurul Islam murder trial starts today

The trial of the Laxmipur BNP leader Nurul Islam murder case starts today in the Speedy Trial Tribunal, Chittagong.

Unidentified assailants abducted Nurul Islam, also an Advocate, from his residential chamber in Laxmipur on September 18, 2000. His mutilated body was recovered from the river Meghna three weeks after the abduction.

Laxmipur Bar Council President AH Tarekuddin Chowdhury filed a case with Laxmipur Police Station.

Inspector Kamrul Hasan pressed charges on July 30, 2002 against 31 persons including then Laxmipur Pourashava Chairman and Awami League leader Abu Taher, his wife Nazma Akhter, and son Salahuddin Tipu.
