Principal sells gold souvenir, comes under criticism
Shirajul Huq, principal of the BC, sold the diadem to Natore Jewellers' at Tk 40,000 without informing the college authorities, sources alleged.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawmaker Nadim Mustafa gifted back the 12 tola gold crown to the college authorities that gave it to him at a reception on August 11, 2002 sparking countrywide criticism.
However, the crown went missing.
In a governing body meeting of the BC on September 2, the college authorities formed a five-member probe committee headed by Mohammad Ishaq with instruction to submit report within 30 days. It also decided to create a stipend fund by selling the crown, sources said.
Talking to newsman, Huq admitted he had sold the crown without informing the authorities.
"I did not feel it necessary to inform the authority about the deal as none inquired about the crown since it was donated to the BC," Huq said adding that he would repay the sum or return it to the governing body soon.
