2 AL, 1 JCD men killed in 3 dists

At least three political leaders, two of the Awami League (AL) and one of the ruling BNP's student wing the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), were killed in separate incidents in three districts yesterday.

Our Bogra correspondent reports: Police yesterday recovered the body of an AL leader of Dhunat Upazila of the district after he was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants who dumped the body in a field at Bishaharigachha of the same upazila.

The victim was identified as Masud Iqbal Rais, president of number 1 ward committee of Chowkibari Union unit of the Awami League.

Family sources said Iqbal went missing on Monday after he went to Bishaharigachha Hat with his son Shohag to sell paddy.

Superintendent of Police of Bogra visited the spot. A murder case was filed with Dhunat Police Station.

The UNB from Keraniganj adds: Activists of Jubo Dal, youth wing of the ruling BNP, allegedly beat an elderly Awami League leader to death at Ghoshkanda here yesterday.

Locals said a group of Jubo Dal activists severely beat Hazrat Ali, 65, at 7:00am following a land dispute, leaving him dead on the spot.

Five people, including a woman were also injured in the attack. They were admitted to hospital.

Additional police were deployed in the area to fend off further violence. A case was filed.

Our staff correspondent from Khulna reports: Mohammad Anwarul Islam, 27, joint secretary of Jalme Union unit of the JCD, was hacked to death yesterday by unidentified miscreants.

The body of the JCD leader, who had gone missing on Sunday, was found lying on the road at Labonchor yesterday.

Khulna Kotwali Police recovered the body, which was handed over to the victim's family after autopsy at the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue.

None has so far been arrested in connection with the murder. No case was filed till writing of this report last night.
