Top outlaw nabbed in Khulna
Police also arrested 12 others from the house, including Debu's wife, son, daughter and sister.
The BCP leader is the 'most wanted listed criminal' and prime accused in 33 criminal cases, including 12 for murder, filed with different police stations of Khulna Division, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, two platoons of district and metropolitan police led by Deputy Inspector General Abdul Aziz Sarker nabbed Debu and others from his rented apartment on the first floor of the house.
The outlaw was residing there identifying himself as a fish trader, Nitish. His wife Ratna Roy, daughter Priyanka, son Raju, sister Kajol and the other arrestees were also staying in that house.
Vivekananda, chief security guard of Debu, was among the arrestees. The others were identified as Rabindra Nath, Sanjay Sana, Amitash Mallick, Anupam Kumar, Shukdev Mondol, Mahmud and Mukunda Kumar Mondol.
However police could not recover any arms from the house. Only a mobile phone set and a telephone index were recovered.
Earlier in 1999, Debu had surrendered to police with arms to take advantage of the general amnesty granted by the government. This is for the first time he has been arrested, police said.
Security in the city has been stepped up following his arrest.
