'Arrest real killers of Imam'

It also demanded arrest of the real killers of Monzurul Imam and Advocate Bijon Bihari Mondol and rickshawpuller Shahid, who were also killed in the atttack on Imam.

The demands were made by President of the Sadar thana AL unit Fakir Abu Hossain at a press conference here yesterday morning.

Abu Hossain accused the four-party alliance government of falsely implicating a number of leaders of the AL, Jubo League, Bangladesh Chhatra League and Sramik League in the murder case and other cases relating to the recent attacks on the BNP office and the residence of Ali Asgar Lobi MP.

He claimed Lobi's residence came under attack only when killers of Imam took shelter there soon after the murder and opened fire and hurled brick chips at people protesting the incident. None from his party was involved in the attack on Lobi's house, he added.

The thana AL president also blamed police for 'harassing' the accused in the false cases at the 'instigation' of BNP-Jamaat alliance.

The press conference was attended by, among others, Ajmal Ahmed Tapan, secretary of the Sadar thana AL.
