The 25th founding anniversary of ruling BNP will be celebrated across the country today.

The BNP was formally launched on this day in 1978 with late president Ziaur Rahman at the helm.

Within a span of 25 years, the BNP came to power several times. Moreover, in the most recent general election, the BNP came to power with an overwhelming support, bagging nearly 200 seats. Thus, the BNP resumed office yet again under Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's leadership.

Even when the party was in opposition in the seventh Jatiya Sangsad polls, it was the largest single-party opposition with 116 seats.

The BNP and its front organisations have drawn up four-day elaborate silver jubilee celebrations

Party flags will be hoisted at its central office in Naya Paltan and at the offices of its front organisations.

Khaleda, together with leaders and workers of BNP and its front organisations, will offer Fateha and place wreath at the mazar of Ziaur Rahman at 10:00am today.

Later, the prime minister will lead a colourful procession from city's Paltan Maidan at 3:00pm.

The BNP yesterday arranged a photo and poster exhibition at National Museum titled "25 years of BNP". Party Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan inaugurated the exhibition.

The BNP will arrange a discussion meeting tomorrow at Mahanagar Nattayamancha and will hold an open concert, Bangladeshi Cultural Festival, on September 3.

The BNP yesterday also awarded 10 elderly activists of Comilla district for their contribution to the party. Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and party Joint Secretary General Goyeswar Chandra Roy distributed gold medals. Shipping Minister Akbar Hossain was also present as the chief guest.
