BTTB employee killed as bus hits bike

A Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) employee was killed and another injured in a road accident at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation rail crossing in Karwan Bazaar yesterday.

A Tongi-bound double-decker bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) hit the motorcycle carrying Akhter Hossain, a BTTB lineman, and Kibria, another BTTB employee at around 9:00am, killing Akhter on the spot, police and witnesses said.

Kibria who was driving the bike was severely hurt in the leg. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, sources said.

The BTTB officials received Akhter's body in the afternoon from the DMCH after autopsy.

Meanwhile, a mob caught the BRTC bus driver Faruq alias Rana and beat him up before turning him over to Tejgaon police.

Officials, employees and Collective Bargaining Agent leaders of the BTTB rushed to the spot hearing about the accident and raised a rowdy protest. However, police took control of the situation.

A case was filed against Faruq with Tejgaon Police Station.
