Tidal waves wash away 57 more houses in Kutubdia

UNB, Cox's Bazar
Tidal waves of the Bay of Bengal yesterday again inundated a vast stretch of land from Teknaf to Kutubdia Island.

The high tide surging from the Bay washed away about 57 more houses on the offshore Kutubdia Island.

Sources said seawaters also swamp 50 shrimp enclosures in different coastal areas including Moheshkhali, Teknaf, Choufaldandi in Cox's Bazar, Bharuakhali and Chakoria.

Five feet high seawaters entered the offshore island through the damaged cross dams.A number of fish farms were overflowed, causing a huge loss.

Crops on over 500 acres were destroyed by salt water. The island's homeless fishermen are worst affected.
