Tk 1,410 cr allocated for health ministry

The government has allocated Tk 1,410 crore for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for fiscal 2003-2004 to ensure healthcare for all by 2006.

In addition, Tk 1,512 crore has been earmarked for the ministry under the Annual Development Programme (ADP).

This was disclosed at a meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Health and Family Welfare Ministry at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.

Of the total ADP allocation, Tk 583 crore will come from the government's development budget while the remaining amount of Tk 929 crore will be available as project assistance, the meeting was told.

As part of the logistic support, the government has distributed 212 ambulances and 69 X-ray machines to various hospitals under the healthcare expansion programme.

The government has also a plan to set up two 500-bed general hospitals in the city's Mirpur-Pallabi and Basabo-Khilgaon-Mugdapara areas.
