32 AL leaders accused in explosives case get bail

The High Court Division yesterday granted ad interim bail to all 32 accused leaders and workers of the main opposition Awami League (AL) in the explosive case filed in Barisal on August 17.

Granting two months' bail, the court also asked the government to explain why the accused would not be given regular bail.

Local police filed a case against the AL leaders and workers for blasting crackers in Barisal city.

On August 21, police filed chargesheet of the case under the Speedy Trial Act and the court issued an order for arrest of the accused immediately or confiscation of their property.

Local police moved with the order on the same day and confiscated property from 11 houses.

A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Goura Gopal Shaha and Justice Abdus Salam Mannan granted the bail.

Advocates Abdul Matin Khasru, Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Abdus Salam Talukder, Mushfiqur Rahman, Golam Abbas Chowdhury Dulal, Nazmul Ahsan Mizan, Morsheda Lipi and others moved the bail prayer.
