The Bureau of Anti-corruption (BAC) yesterday pressed charge against an inspector of Duty Drawback and Exemption Department of running a bribe cartel.

Farid Ahmed Patwari, inspector of the BAC, submitted the charge sheet against Mohammad Sohrab Hossain before the chief metropolitan magistrate's court accusing Hossain of taking 10 to 12 per cent of the tax exemption amount in bribes from at least 50 companies.

The BAC officials seized a ledger from his possession with names of representatives of 50 companies who used to bribe him for illegal benefits.

Sohrab confessed he maintained the ledger beside the register to keep record of the companies and his gain.
