Help build crime-free society
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a six-day Bangladesh Photographic Society (BPS)-Binu National Photographic Competition and Exhibition-2003 under the title "Education in Bangladesh" at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) auditorium.
The ceremony was also addressed by Science, Communications and Information Technology Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Begum Selima Rahman, State Minister for Education Ehsanul Haque Milon, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Ahmed Nazir with BPS president Bulbul Ahmed in the chair.
Sponsor of the programme, Lutfar Rahman Binu and BPS secretary general Saidur Rahman Swapan also spoke on the occasion organised by BPS in collaboration with BSA.
President Iajuddin distributed awards among the winners of the competition.
Describing photography as living documents of history and time Iajuddin said the photographers, mainly the photojournalists, recorded many valuable events of our struggle for independence, War of Liberation and later on democratic movements.
He urged the photographers to play an active role in building a society free from crime and moral degradation.
Iajuddin said as education is the main weapon of national development, the government has given priority to this sector.
He praised BPS for selecting "Education in Bangladesh" as the theme of their photographic competition.
Dr Moyeen Khan said photography overcomes the limitation of language and it never tells lies.
"As photography is a mixture of art and technology, it demands high professional skill," he added.
