One murdered in shanty near Gabtoli

The victim, Majid Sarder, 55, hailed from Hijla village of Aminbazaar, Savar.

His son Sohel found him lying unconscious in his shanty yesterday morning. The door was locked from outside. It was initially thought that Majid died of heart attack.

But during the burial rites at his village, it was found that Majid's private organ was severed and the body bruised. Police later sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.

A gamchha (towel) was tied around the neck of the victim, sources in the forensic department of the DMCH said. Forensic experts suspect that a scuffle preceded the murder.

"Majid supervised a team of 20 labours Tuesday," said Dulal, one of the labours, adding that they left the area in the evening leaving Majid behind. Majid served as a supervisor for more than 10 years.

The duty officer of the Mirpur Police Station said they are waiting for the autopsy report for filing a case.
