Order to reinstate joint secretary

The administrative tribunal has declared the retrenchment of a government official unlawful and void, and gave an order to reinstate him with payment of full salary and allowances.

Hatem Ali Khan, a joint secretary, was given forced retirement on December 9, 2001 on completion of his 25 years of service under the Public Servant (Retirement) Act, 1974, said a press release yesterday.

He was given forced retirement although he had six more years before his normal retirement.

The victim filed a case with the Administrative Tribunal against the government order.

After hearing both the sides, Judge AKM Fazlul Karim gave the verdict on August 10.

Thirty-six officials of the administration cadre and 86 senior police officials were given forced retirement after the present government came to power. All of them belong to the 1973 batch.

And all of them but one have filed cases with the administrative tribunal.
