Garment workers' Int'l Solidarity Forum Aug 18, 19

Bangladesh Garment Workers Protection Alliance (BGWPA) will hold an international "Solidarity Forum for Garment Workers of LDCs" on August 18 and 19 at the Bangladesh Institute of Adminis-tration and Management auditorium here with a view to protecting the interest of garments workers of the least developed countries, says a press release.

Minister for Commerce Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will attend the inaugural function as the chief guest.

The main objective of the Solidarity Forum is to campaign for protection of the rights, interests and livelihood of the garment and textile workers of LDCs.

This Forum will build an alliance and develop collective strategies to launch a worldwide campaign for a development-based world and national trade regimes and highlight concerns of the garment workers of Bangladesh. It will create a broader alliance of organisations and workers' groups to collectively lobby and advocate at the global/bila-teral/national levels.

The Forum will be participated by representatives of garment and textile workers' federation, women's groups, human rights organisations, global civil society networks, consumers' groups and international trade experts.
