'Drug peddler' hacked to death in sleep

A young man was hacked to death in sleep inside his residence at Khilbarirtek in Badda yesterday.

A gang of ten stormed into the house of Jewel Hossain, son of Israfil Hossain, at about 5:00am and chopped different parts of his body indiscriminately with machete. They also severed the tendons of both his hands and legs.

He was declared dead soon after he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Mamata, the victim's wife, identified six of the group as Selim, Shamshu, Kalu, Robu, Boal Kalam and Mamun and filed a case with the Badda Police Station accusing the six.

Jewel was a member of an organised phensidyl peddlers in Badda area, police said.

They might have killed Jewel following internal conflict, police suspected.

Earlier, police on information recovered the body of an unidentified youth from Bijoy Sarani in Badda Monday.

Kafrul police went to the spot at about 9:00pm and recovered the body in lungi.

However, it did not bear any mark of injury, police said.

An unnatural death case was filed with the Kafrul Police Station.
