Cop shoots bus helper for 'not paying tolls'
Nayon, 20, the bus helper, was bullet-hit in the abdomen. He is being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Nayon alleged that the policemen demanded Tk 500 from the bus supervisor, Raju, for carrying four cages of poultry and three sacks of papaya on the roof.
"The police team stopped the bus and demanded money," the victim said. But the bus driver, Babul, tried to drive away and a policeman opened fire, injuring Nayon.
Duty officer of the Uttara Police Station said nine policemen were deployed at the Abdullahpur bus stand to check vehicles. As one of them was getting onto the bus at around 3:00am, a bullet accidentally went off from a shotgun and hit Nayon.
Police filed a general diary with the Uttara Police Station mentioning that Nayon was injured in an accidental fire.
