26 hurt as JCD men swoop on PSTU students

Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury came to visit the PSTU to attend a meeting with the teachers.

First-year students of the university formed a human chain demanding end to their problems.

The minister gave an assurance that he would talk to them after his meeting with the teachers. At around 4:00pm, the minister attempted to leave the campus ignoring students' appeal.

The agitating students tried to bring out a procession to protest the minister's attitude. At this JCD cadres reportedly attacked them several times leaving 26 including eight female students injured.

Maniruzzaman Hiron, Mahibur Rahman Biplob, Rohena Hossain, Munna, Rumki, Ripon, Arzun, Alamgir and others were injured in the assault.

Students called indefinite strike demanding resignation of Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Hannan Bhuiyan.

However, the VC was not available for his comment.

JCD cadres and police cordoned the campus and a tense situation was prevailing.
