A total of 22 million babies across the country aged up to five years would be administered polio vaccines in two rounds during the next National Immunization Day (NID).

The first round of next NID will be held on January 18, 2004 and second round on February 29, 2004. The babies aged from one year to five years will be administered high power vitamin capsules 'A' along with two drops of polio vaccines.

This was decided at a meeting of the National Steering Committee of NID with Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in the chair.

The health minister told the meeting that Bangladesh had been free from polio for the last three years and no polio patient was found since 2000.

State minister for Health Mizanur Rahman Sinha, Secretary M Fazlur Rahman and other officials concerned and representatives of WHO, UNICEF, USAID and JICA were present at the meeting.
