Gono Bishwabidyalay teacher assaulted
Dr Saiduzzaman Apu, lecturer of physiology department, was assaulted at around 12.00 noon when he went to request the angry students to stop ransacking.
The students also staged demonstration in front of the residence of the VC and held a rally on the campus.
They announced a seven-day-long agitation programme including boycott of their classes and examinations from Saturday to press home their demand.
The programme also includes formation of human chain on Dhak-Aricha Highway on Saturday at around 10.00am.
The students have been agitating since Tuesday demanding immediate registration of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) department with the health ministry.
They are also demanding the approval of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) as it is needed to continue their practice on completion of their course.
As the university is yet to get registration of the health ministry and approval of BMDC the students wouldn't be able to apply for any government job and practice anywhere.
Meanwhile, the university authorities held a meeting with the students yesterday without any result.
VC Dr Qasem Chowdhury presided over the meeting which was attended by Dr Sahidullah, principal of the medical faculty, and Delwar Hossain, registrar of the university.
