One gets 24 yrs jail in arms case in Barisal

Judge of the Speedy Trail Tribunal MA Quddus Mia delivered the verdict in presence of the convict, Rafiq Chowdhury, 30.

The tribunal sentenced him to14-year imprisonment for possessing a pistol and a sawed off rifle, while 10 years for keeping six bullets.

According to the prosecution, acting on a tip-off, police arrested Rafiq Chowdhury along with firearms and ammunition from Patuakhali Launch Ghat on August, 14, 2001.

A case was filed with Kotwali police station the same day, police submitted charge sheet to the court accusing Rafiq on May 5, 2002.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Mojibur Rahman Nantu stood for the state, while Advocate Alamgir Hossain appeared for the defendant.
