Indigenous Day on August 9

This year's theme is 'Security of the indigenous women'.

Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum will be arranging several programmes in Dhaka to observe the day. Indigenous people at various places in the country will also hold programmes, said a press release.

The day's programmes include staging discussion meetings, arranging cultural programmes and colourful rallies and upholding demands for constitutional recognition. As many as five thousand indigenous people are expected to take part.

Jyotirindra Bodhipriyo Larma, chairman of the CHT Regional Council and also the president of the forum, will chair the programmes at the Central Shaheed Minar and TSC auditorium. Hasan Arif, attorney general will attend as chief guest.
