Imam murdered in Barisal

Hafez Mawlana Mufti Md Giasuddin, 31, was Pesh Imam of Palashpur Jame Mosque and a teacher of Khwaza Mainuddin Madrassah.

Gias expelled Mahbub, a student of class eight and Islami Chhatra Shibir cadre, for violating rules, sources said. The murder might have something to do with the expulsion, sources added.

Shibir cadres in collaboration with the Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal cadres attacked the madrassah. But the students resisted them.

On Monday night, Gias was sleeping in his balcony when the murderer struck him with a sharp weapon. He died on the spot.

Abdul Jabbar, the victim's elder brother, filed a case with the Barisal Kotwali Police Station.

Jamaat-e-islami City Aamir Moazzem Hossain Helal refuted the allegations.
