Gang rapes girl in N'ganj

Police could not rescue the victim and arrest anyone in this connection till yesterday evening.

According to the locals, the victim, a 14-year old girl, came to visit her sister's house in Uchitpur from Jessore on Friday. On Saturday, she was going to a relative's house along with his brother-in-law Moslem.

As they were travelling by boat in the river Meghna, four miscreants intercepted the boat and abducted the girl. They beat up Moslem and threw him into the river. The miscreants are Alamgir, 32, son of Abdul Malek, Jakir, 30, son of Tara Mia, Alamin of Jangalia and Salimullah, 25, son of Hazrat Ali of village Balapur. The attackers raped the girl and took her to the house of one Manik in village Champaknagar. The girl was reportedly kept in the house of Khalil of village Baherchar till yesterday evening.

Moslem informed Araihazar police of the incident and they seized the boat and recovered a knife from it but could not arrest the miscreants. Some influential local people are allegedly trying to protect them.
