6 drown in Chalan Beel boat capsize
Six people drowned and one remained missing when a country boat carrying 50 people capsized in Chalan Beel after being caught in a storm at about 9:00pm Friday. Others swam ashore or were rescued.
Bodies of Moazzem, 50, Jahangir, 20, Joynal, 20, Enamul, 22, Shishir, 18, and Emran, 20, were recovered yesterday. Khokan, 21, was still missing.
The bodies were kept at Gurudaspur Police Station.
Survivors said students and businessmen of Kachikata village in Gurudaspur upazila went on a cruise in Chalan Beel on Friday morning in a big country boat.
On their return journey, the boat was caught in a storm and capsized in the beel between Milsha and Rohai villages.
Hearing cries of the victims, the villagers came to their rescue.
