Only 62 goes for free ride to Dhaka
The first trip of the BIWTC (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation) vessel MV Sela failed to attract passengers for the proposed daytime schedule on Dhaka-Barisal-Dhaka route.
According to the BIWTC sources, Sela reached Barisal with only 35 passengers and sailed for Dhaka with only 62 despite the trip being fare-free..
BIWTC officials said Sela will run Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday morning from Dhaka and Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from Barisal under present schedule.
The officials of the launch owners association said the BIWTC enjoys many government facilities and, therefore, can operate at a loss. But they cannot afford any fare-free service.
