BFUJ protests action against press freedom
The BFUJ comments came at its executive committee meeting yesterday at the Jatiya Press Club.
Observing that cases against journalists are lodged to harass them, BFUJ leaders reiterated their demand to amend sections 501 and 502 of Penal Code to end such harassment.
Condemning the recent government-sponsored repression on newspapers and, BFUJ leaders protested harassment cases filed against editors and reporters of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo and Janakantha.
With BFUJ President Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury in the chair, the meeting also condemned police action in Channel i and ATN offices, identifying the cases and police actions as 'naked interference with freedom of newspaper and journalists'.
The meeting decided to hold BFUJ council meeting on October 12 and election on October 26.
