Wounded FFs demand more allowance

Wounded freedom fighters yesterday demanded an increase in the allowance for them and removal of discrimination in disbursement.

At a press conference, the leaders of Muktijoddha Paribar Kalyan O Bastobayon Parishad also called on the government to make all the business establishments run by the Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust profitable, removing what they termed 'the irregularities'.

Parishad president Amir Hossain Molla said, "In the name of ascertaining the extent of wound after 32 years of the Liberation War, names of 865 freedom fighters have been crossed off the list of state honorarium."

According to new rules, a wounded freedom fighter will not be eligible for state honorarium if he is less than 20 per cent disabled, he said.

Molla demanded allowance for all wounded freedom fighter as they fought for the country risking their lives.

Md Yunus Ali of Mymensingh, who took part in the Liberation War under the Sector 11, said he had been receiving allowance for the last four to five years but has been denied this year after being classified as 20 per cent disabled.

Abdul Wadud Khan and Md Rafiqul Islam of Mymensingh and Abul Bashar of Comilla said they also had been enjoying the allowance but have been denied this year.

The parishad leaders also placed seven-point demand including reintroduction of medical facilities for the wounded and martyred freedom fighters' families, housing allotment, rehabilitation, and inclusion of parishad representatives in the Board of Trustees.

Parishad Vice-Presidents Khondakar Abdul Karim and Nurul Islam, General Secretary Belal Uddin and Joint Secretary Abdul Gafur also spoke.
