10 cops closed in Ctg's Faruq killing

Ten cops of Pukuria Police Camp were closed yesterday following the sensational Faruq killing at Banshkhali.

Md Faruq, a contractor was shot dead at Tailerdwip-Chandpur ferryghat at Banshkhali on Sunday allegedly by a group of armed men. Some of them were wearing police uniform, witnesses said.

The killing was a sequel to a dispute over ferryghat construction work, the witnesses alleged.

Jainab Begum, the victim's wife, filed a case with the Anwara Police Station accusing four cops including Subeder Nechhar Ahmed and a rival contractor, Mohammad Ali.

Shafiqul Islam, deputy commissioner of Chittagong and Motiur Rahman, police super of the district, visited the spot yesterday and directed forming a three-member probe committee to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, local people observed a half-day hartal at Banshkhali protesting the murder yesterday.
