Girl dies, 3 injured as two speedboats collide in Meghna River

A girl was killed in a head-on collision between two speedboats on the Meghna River in Hizla upazila of Barishal last night.

Three others, including the drivers of the two speedboats, were injured during the incident, our Barishal correspondent reports.

The deceased -- Razia (11) -- was the daughter of Bellal Rari, who is a resident of Bharoia Village in the upazila, said Memania Union Chairman Nasir Uddin.

Razia was with her uncle Abdullah when the incident took place around 8:30pm last night, said Gaurabdi Union Chairman Nazul Islam Milon.

Hizla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asim Kumar Sikder said Razia died on the spot but her uncle remained safe. The injured were taken to a local upazila health complex, the OC added.
