135 returnees from India sent to institutional quarantine in Benapole
Some 135 Bangladeshis, who returned from India today through Benapole border in Jashore, have been sent to institutional quarantine to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
With them, a total of 1,330 Bangladeshis, who got stranded in different parts in India due to the country's ongoing lockdown over the outbreak of coronavirus, have returned to Bangladesh through the Benapole international check post since April 6, said immigration police.
The 135 Bangladeshis were allowed to enter Bangladesh as their visas will expire soon, said Ahsan Kabir, officer-in-charge of immigration police at Benapole.
Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pulak Kumar Mandal said the Bangladeshis were taken to an institutional quarantine unit in Gazirdargah area beside Jashore-Benaple road after they reached Benapole from India.
"Their samples will be collected soon. If the tests come negative, they can go home," the UNO added.
