Voting for by-polls in two Pabna upazilas begins

Voting for the by-elections in Ishwardi and Bera upazilas of Pabna began this morning.

Starting from 9:00am, the voting will continue till 5:00pm, reports our Pabna correspondent.

A total of five candidates are contesting for upazila chairmen's post.

According to district election office, Awami League (AL) candidate Rejaul Haque and BNP candidate Rais Uddin Ahmed are contesting for Bera upazila election.

And in Ishwardi upazila, AL nominated Nayeb Ali Bishwas, BNP candidate Azmal Hossain Sujon and Jatiya Party candidate Gausul Azam are contesting for the chairman's post.

A total of 2,03,802 voters will practice their voting rights at 68 polling centres in Bera upazila while 2,54,108 voters will cast their votes at 84 polling stations in Ishwardi upazila today.

District Election Officer Md Mahabubur Rahman said that voting is happening in peaceful environment in these two upazilas.

"We have taken all necessary preparation for holding free, fair and peaceful election," he said.

Presence of the voters is poor since beginning of the election, our correspondent said.
