Vandalising sculpture of Bangabandhu: Four arrestees remanded
Four suspects who were arrested on charges of damaging the sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia have been placed on remand.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Enamul Haque passed the order after they were produced before the court around 11:15am today, our local correspondent reports.
The arrestees include two madrasa students.
Of the two students, one was taken on five-day remand, while the other was taken on a four-day remand.
The two others -- Alamin (33) and Yusuf (38) -- are teachers of Masud (R:) Madrasa in Kushtia town's Jugia area, and were remanded for five days each, said Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station.
During interrogation, the two students admitted that they vandalised the sculpture on the night of December 4, after they were inspired by the recent anti-sculpture statements from Hefajat-e-Islam leaders Mamunul Haque and Faizul Haque, officials told a press briefing at Kushtia Police Lines on December 6.
