Two house help sentenced to death in former Eden Mohila College principal murder

A Dhaka tribunal today sentenced two domestic aides to death in a case filed against them for killing former principal of Eden Mohila College Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin in February last year.

The convicts are: Rita Akhtar alias Swapna (35), and Ruma alias Reshma (30), both of whom were house help at the former principal's residence.

The tribunal observed that it is a sensational case and the accused had committed a heinous offence by killing the victim and looting the valuables from her residence. So, they did not deserve any mercy from the tribunal, the judge observed.

Victim's son Saniat Ismat Amit, who was present at the tribunal, expressed his satisfaction over the verdict.

On February 10 last year, police recovered the body of Parvin from her apartment at Sukanya Tower in the capital's Elephant Road in the capital.

After the murder, the family reported that their two house help went missing along with 20 tolas of gold, valuables and Tk 50,000 in cash.

The following day, her husband Ismat Kader Gama filed a murder case with New Market Police Station against three including two house help Ruma alias Reshma and Rita Akhtar alias Swapna.
