WhatsApp brings 6 new features

Tech & Startup Desk

WhatsApp introduced a set of new features on March 26 aimed at improving usability, storage management and cross-device functionality.

Managing storage within chats

The update includes tools designed to help users manage storage more efficiently within individual conversations. Users can now identify and delete large files directly from a chat without removing the entire conversation history. The platform also allows users to clear only media files while retaining text messages.

Cross-platform chat transfer

WhatsApp has expanded its chat transfer feature to support movement between different operating systems, including transfers from iOS to Android. According to WhatsApp, the change is intended to simplify switching devices while preserving messages, photos and videos.

Multiple accounts on iOS

WhatsApp now allows users to operate two accounts on a single iOS device, a feature previously limited to Android. Users can switch between accounts within the app, with visual indicators designed to help distinguish between them.

Sticker suggestions in chats

The update introduces sticker recommendations based on emoji input. As users type, the app suggests relevant stickers that can be used as alternatives to standard emojis.

AI-powered photo editing

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools developed by Meta are being integrated into the chat experience, allowing users to edit images before sending them. The features include options to adjust backgrounds, remove unwanted elements and apply stylistic changes, as per WhatsApp.

AI-assisted message writing

WhatsApp has also expanded its writing assistance feature, which can generate suggested replies based on the context of a conversation. The company said these tools are designed to operate while maintaining user privacy, though availability may vary by region.

The features are being rolled out gradually and are expected to become available to a broader user base in the coming weeks.
