It is concerning to learn that Bangladesh may face a urea shortfall of around one lakh tonnes for the upcoming Aman season if the government fails to secure fresh import commitments.

The state-run entity received bids for the supply of 50,000 tonnes of urea from suppliers against the second tender after it found no response against its first international tender to buy 200,000 tonnes of urea

The development comes after the temporary closure of five of the country’s six urea fertiliser factories two weeks ago, amid fears of gas supply disruptions linked to the war
