A new-look Bangladesh side managed to outplay the reigning T20 World Cup champions England in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday.

Shakib could not represent the Black and Whites in the last season following his side’s exit after first phase as the cricketer was busy with the national team's tour of South Africa and was later out of cricket for a few days due to a family crisis.

Bangladesh's maiden T20I win over England came as a breath of fresh air as the hosts displayed a fearless attitude to clinch a convincing six-wicket win over the visitors to lead the three-match series 1-0 in Chattogram on Thursday.

“This is a great start in order to make a good team for WC in 2024 in the West Indies. We will be able to put out a very good team when the World Cup starts,” Shakib said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

England were looking forward to a challenge but for newly-arrived Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, it will be the first step on a journey to the 2024 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.

"We were really looking forward to this game. We wanted to finish on a high. Still disappointed because we lost the series. The first game was a killer. Praise must go to England and the way they played,” Tamim said during the post-match presentation.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan delivered with bat and ball as they beat England by 50 runs in the third one-day international to earn a consolation win and deny the tourists a clean sweep in Chattogram on Monday.

“A strong domestic system is obviously the perfect springboard for the international side. Pitches are really important in age-group cricket, leading into first class cricket. The coaches are important and I believe employing some senior successful players and coaches will help set this,” he said
