Japan risks more severe weather and must find ways to alleviate disasters, a government spokesman says, as intense heat and water shortages raised fear of disease among survivors of last week’s floods and landslides.

The death toll from heavy rains and flooding in southern Japan has risen to 15, media reported Saturday, as rescuers continued work to bring out isolated survivors.
